If you asked me, “what do I want this year?”
I would state, “I wish for better days.”
I wish the invisible enemy (Covid-19) could be eradicated from
our midst so it will cease the carnage of lives.
I wish all the chronic ailments that ravage
the bodies of the “haves-nots and haves” could be
of the past.
I wish there was health-care for all so that many
wouldn’t have to surrender their homes and
other possessions in order to fund a procedure to
save their lives.
I wish those in authority would place themselves in
others’ shoes and make sensible and ethical decisions
to protect an entire population despite their religious believes,
race and sexual orientation.
I wish that workers could be duly compensated with more than a
living wage so as to comfortably take care of their families’ needs
and have enough to reserve for a “nest egg”.
I wish employers would view the workers as their biggest
assets and don’t see them as liabilities.
I wish that the Monopoly marketplace could cease sinking the
neighborhood stores, restaurants knowing that there’s a
share for everyone.
I wish kids could get a chance to spend more time on the outskirts
with their peers instead of being entertained by video games.
I wish poverty and homelessness could be a thing of the past.
I wish mental illness could be viewed and take as serious a
physical ailment.
I know these are all piped dreams, but what can one do?
We all can wish for Better Days.
